WATER WORKS AND RETICULATION

Prepared and had approved upgrading Colenso Water Works and general supply scheme and with formulating procedures for water management including leak detection and maintenance and preparation of plans, cost estimates and tender documentation to upgrade the water works and laying new rising main.

SEWAGE WORKS

Design and commission of small package sewerage plants for Anerley Frail Care Centre and Golden Pond Retirement Village.

TOWNSHIP

Designed and worked on site as the Project Manager for various developments throughout KZN.

GEOTECHNICAL

Numerous projects all over Southern Natal and used in conjunction with design of piles and special foundations for buildings, such as schools and hospitals.

I am listed on the Geotechnical Engineers Panel for the Durban Metropolitan Area.

STRUCTURAL STEELWORK AND REINFORCED CONCRETE WORK

Designed numerous warehouses and factories varying from 100 m² to 12000 m². Other special steel structures – 3 No 12 m high towers with 40 m booms, which convey bagasse for Sappi Fine Papers, Stanger. R 25 million Riverview papermill in Verulam (recently sold for R100 million.) The largest recent building is the 10000 m², R16m new printing works for Flexoprint on the Umgeni Industrial Development Site of Intersite.

PROJECTS

REINFORCED CONCRETE WORK

From small concrete slabs to multi storey blocks of flats mainly on Natal South Coast such as St Michael Sands Hotel.

STRUCTURAL TIMBER

have designed large timber roofs for over 40 schools and warehouses.

Largest warehouse roof 3200 m² in timber for Federated Timbers, acted as the building designer, engineer, quantity surveyor and project manager. The largest office block roof is the design of 20000 m² of roofs with airconditioning ducts within the truss for the Riverside Government Office Complex, Nelspruit.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Over the years I have undertaken management of projects where work has included the acquisition of suitable land, preparation of feasibility studies, cost estimates, prepare building plans, engineers designs, tender documents with a schedule of quantities, supervision of contracts for industrial, commercial and office buildings varying in value from R600 000-00 for Eagle Harm Engineering to R3.8 m Phase 1 and R2.5 m Phase 2 extensions for Flexoprint Printing Works and offices in Springfield Park, Durban.

I also undertook the architectural, quantity surveying, civil and structural aspects for the R25 m Riverview Papermill in Verulam.

PROJECTS

AIRFIELD IMPROVEMENTS

I received an appointment from the Redcross Air Mercy Services and Rotary Club of Durban Bay to investigate and upgrade airfields in Kwazulu Natal.

SCHOOLS FOR BLACK HANDICAPPED CHILDREN

I have undertaken developments of 2 large schools. In 1990 we commenced the planning and development of the Thembalethu School at the Harding District for 200 Black handicap children including all building work for classrooms, hall, dormitories, kitchens and ablution blocks. We also planned the water and purification works school and sports facilities.

When the Department of Education and Training took over the school, the school was relocated to Harding next to the N2. We were appointed to do the full project management work, which included all professional services for the full development plan of the project by the Department of Education and Training. We developed the 1st phase of the developments within budget. The project cost estimate in 1992 was R10 m. Acted as project manager, architect and quantity surveyor.

We undertook the planning and development plans for the Islamic School for girls in Parlock, Durban. Phase 1 has just been completed at a cost of R5, 8 m with Phase 2 with school hall presently under construction at a cost of R1, 4 m.
